Interns / Students
An applicant for initial general registration in Victoria is a provisionally registered pharmacist / intern (previously referred to as a 'pre-registrant') who qualifies for general registration under section 5 of the Act and either:
- has never registered as a pharmacist or
- was an overseas trained pharmacist who has successfully completed the Australian Pharmacy Council (APC) requirements for registration (refer to The role of APC) but has never registered as a pharmacist within Australia.
(Note: This excludes pharmacists registered with the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand who are required to follow the applicable procedures for registration outlined under General Registration).
The education component of the qualifications for general registration requires a period of student registration for the purpose of undertaking clinical training as part of an approved course in pharmacy practice (not applicable to APC candidates). The supervised practice component requires a period of provisional registration to undertake the required period of supervised practice. Further information regarding the qualifications for general registration can be found under internship requirements.
An applicant must also have successfully completed the Board's additional requirements for initial general registration to be eligible to apply to the Board for general registration (refer to internship requirements).
